Students entering the Middle School of Murtoa College (Years 9 and 10) are able to create a learning program from a diverse range of subjects. Students complete a two-year course of Maths and English as compulsory subjects, and then complete their course by choosing electives from the Languages, Humanities, Physical Education, Arts, Technology and Health curriculums.
Each year students are offered an array of choices from across all curriculum areas and invited to choose subjects that are of interest to them. This allows each individual student in Years 9 and 10 to design a program that suits their personal interests and provides a clear path to future studies in Year 11 as a VCE or VET student. At Murtoa College we value the choices and voices of our students, which means that the curriculum changes each year based on the selections of each group of students! Our flexible curriculum structure allows us to run small ‘boutique’ subjects in areas such as Science and Technology, allowing students to gain practical and theoretical skills in small classes (with less than 10 students in many cases).
